Charlie "Bird" Parker was one of the greatest jazz musicaians in american histroy. Although he is widely recognized now, he went most of his very short life not reciving the honor he desirved.Charlie traveled around the world and played with many of the great jazz musicans of his day including Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. Charlie Parker greatly influnced jazz through his noval styles of improvisation and his creative geninus that shaped the style of jazz known as bebop.
Charlie Paker was born in Kansas city, Kansas in August 29,1920, but grew up in Kansas city, Missouri, whch then was the center for jazz. Charlie was first introduced to jazz in school where at age 11 he first stated to play the saxaphone. When Charlie was really starting to get proficient at the saxaphone age 15, he dropped out of school to persue a cereer in music.
When first starting out as a jazz musicain, Charlie Parker had a rough experience of learning how to really play the saxaphone. While playing with local bands in Kansas City, he would get laughed off stage when he did not know what he was doing. though he had some rough experiences charlie would gain a firm grip on the concepts he needed to be a successful jazz musican. In 1939 Charlie Parker moved to New York to further persue his career in jazz. while in New York he played in several jam sessions and increased his playing ability by learning from others. As Charlie gained more experience in the art of improvisation he began to push the limits of the sterotypical jazz sound. Charlie Parker preformed in a jam session with Jay McShann's band. It was in this jam session where he played with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Charle Christian, Kenny Clarke, and Thelonious Monk in Harlem. it was highlights likes theses that really defined his career
In 1940, Charlie Parker first appeared in the music press. this was from then on he career really started to take off. Charlie continued to play with Jay McShann's band and went on tour with them for several years. he also continued to work with Dissy Gillespie and did recordings with him. In 1945 Charlie parker formed his owen band but continued to work closely with Dissy and created "Shaw Nuff" and "Saltpeanuts". They went on a Hollywood tour for six weeks at nightclubs. Charlie stayed in L.A. until june of 1946.

Charlie Parker had battle alcoholism and drug addiction since his teenage years. in 1946 he suffered a nervous breakdown and had to stop playing for a short time. he also suffered from stomach ulcers. Even in his declining health, Charlie Parker continued to play and even toured Europe. charlie Parker last preformed at Birdland Nightclub in New York, this Nightclub was named in honor of him. He later died of pneumonia March 9, 1955 at the age of 34.
